Your privacy

What the club keeps about you, why, and how to see, change or delete it.

The short version

  • We keep as little as we can to run the club. We don’t sell it, rent it or use it for advertising, and there are no ads or tracking tools on this site.
  • Your email address. The Saturday email list keeps it, because it has to, and so does Tell Leona, so she can write back. Everywhere else — the jukebox, signing in, Your Quarter — we keep only a scrambled code made from it.
  • What you write for the club is read by Leona before it appears on the site, with your first name and town if you gave them.
  • You can see, change and delete what we keep about you, most of it yourself on Your Quarter. For anything else, email leona@lelesession.com.

Who we are

Lele Session is a free music club at lelesession.com. “We” and “us” on this page mean the people who run it. Questions about your information go to leona@lelesession.com.

What we collect, and why

The Saturday email

When you join, we collect your email address and which page you joined from. If you joined while putting a record in the jukebox, the list also gets the record, the artist, what you wrote about it, and your first name, town and year of birth if you gave them.

The list is kept by beehiiv, the service that sends the email. We use it to send you a welcome email and the Saturday email. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

The jukebox

To put a record in, you give us the song and artist, why it matters to you, and your email address. Your first name, town, year of birth and a dedication — who it’s for, who it’s from, and a line to them — are optional.

Your email address goes to beehiiv for the Saturday email. The jukebox itself keeps only a scrambled code made from it. We receive an email with your request, including your first name, town and what you wrote, but not your email address.

The record, with your first name and town, can appear on the jukebox. What you wrote, and any dedication, appear only after Leona has read them. A dedication has its own private link that only the people you give it to can open.

Plays, votes, quiz scores, predictions and answers

When you play a record, vote in This or That or the Bracket, take the quiz, fill out a bracket or answer One Question, we keep what you did. If you’re signed in, it’s kept with your scrambled code.

If you aren’t signed in, it’s kept with a scrambled code made from your internet connection’s address, so the club can count one vote per person. That also means everyone on the same home connection may count as one person.

Answers to One Question show your first name and town, if you gave them, once Leona has read them. She may read an answer out on the channel.

Signing in to Your Quarter

Signing in is optional; you can play without it.

With Google, Google tells us your name, email address and profile photo. We use your email address to make your scrambled code, and we don’t keep the address — unless you ticked the box for the Saturday email, in which case it goes to beehiiv. We use your first name to start your profile, and we show your photo only if you turn it on. We never receive your Google password, and we don’t ask for access to your YouTube account or anything else in it.

With an emailed link, we use your address to send the link, and we don’t keep it.

Your profile holds only what you add: your first name, your town, the decade that’s yours, and a desert-island record.

Tell Leona

When you send Leona a story, we keep the story, the record it’s about, your name and town if you gave them, and your email address, so she can write back. We also receive it by email. You’re added to the Saturday email only if you tick the box.

When something breaks

If part of the site fails, it records what went wrong, which page you were on and what kind of browser you use. Email addresses and sign-in codes are removed first. We’re emailed about it so it gets fixed.

Our host

The site runs on Vercel. Like any web host, its servers keep standard logs of visits, including IP addresses and browser type.

Cookies and your browser’s storage

We use only these, all to make the site work — none for advertising or analytics:

Videos play in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, but YouTube may set its own cookies once you press play. The Spotify player on some Deep Dives can do the same.

Other companies that handle it

We use these services to run the site:

Whenever your browser loads something from one of these companies, that company sees your IP address, as happens across the web. Their own privacy policies cover what they do with it.

We don’t sell your information, rent it, or share it for advertising.

What other people can see

Your Quarter is private: there is no profile page anyone else can visit. Other people can see what you write for the club once Leona has read it, your first name and town next to it (unless you turn that off on Your Quarter), the records in the jukebox, and a dedication if you share its link.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while the club runs, or until you delete it. beehiiv keeps the Saturday email list until you unsubscribe. Vercel keeps its visit logs for a limited time under its own policy.

Your choices

For anything else — a copy of your information, a correction, or removing emails we’ve received — write to leona@lelesession.com. We’ll reply within 30 days.

Wherever you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it. If you’re in the UK or the European Union: we rely on your consent for the Saturday email and for signing in, and on our legitimate interest in running the club and keeping it free of abuse for everything else. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. The services we use are based in the United States, so your information is stored there. If you’re in California: we don’t sell or share personal information.

Children

The club is for grown-ups. It isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Keeping it safe

The jukebox and your profile turn your email address into a scrambled code before anything is stored, sign-in links stop working after 30 minutes, and the pages where we review what people send are password-protected. No website is perfectly secure; if something goes wrong that affects your information, we’ll tell the people affected.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and mention anything important in the Saturday email.
